Then from there on each player picks a card from deck, keeps what they think will give them a winning hand then puts one out in centre pile etc etc. Dealer starts by discarding a card they think they hope they don't need. The 101 my Granda showed us started with everyone having 101 points, and was like gin rummy,everyone is dealt 7 cards, the dealer 8, dealer changes each completed hand passing round the players clockwise or anti-clockwise -doesn't matter.
